Baby portrait operation: face

This is the first attempt I make at sketching her face. The bad thing about it is that it doesn't look like her AT ALL, the good thing is that ...it looks like a baby? an old baby with a bit of a mustache?

On the bright side I think I know where is the problem/s, I did the eyes too big, moved the angle of the nose and - trying not to add too many shadows to avoid an old look - I just lost the roundness of her cheeks and forehead, not to mention the mustache.

All that should help for the next one, right? or maybe I'll just create a brand new human being mwahahahaha!

LOL! You haven't created a new human being - and you know what you need to tweak for next time. I think it looks like a baby and you'll work on the small adjustments that make someone look just like themselves (or not). Good work - you can always do this one as a warmup with the colors, too.

Lol! Maybe nextime I'll create one :P
Good idea about redoing this one as a color warmup, thanks Rhon!

haha. The baby looks good, but I didn't see the original ;) It looks like you are working small. Maybe you could work larger and reduce? The movement of a line by it's own thickness can throw the whole likeness off. Even a line's character can do it damage when the portrait is small. Just an idea.

It's a pity that her granny won't recognize it as her granddaughter Ben :P but I'll keep working, you're right, I'm working on a A5 sketchbook 'cos I like the grain but I'll follow your advice and try to sketch bigger and then reduce, thanks for the idea!
BTW I didn't know you had set up your own blog finally! can't wait to see some of your thoughts and work there soon, you have a follower already!

I only started to make one after this last comment to you. I'm not sure how good I will be at keeping it up. If I make a decent post there, then I'll let you know. I also figured out how to use iGoogle as my homepage so I can keep an eye on you and Andy in your blogs =D

Well, all I can say is that it was due time that you set your up, with all the great works you do it's a pity that you didn't blog something till now, and don't worry about being good or bad at keeping it up, your blog your rules, right?
