Halloween's around the corner

And little Franken jr. is eager to go trick or treating around the neighborhood dressed up as Jack Sparrow, because every kid wants to be Jack Sparrow! I want! you know I'm five

This concept was edited quite a bit since it came to my mind so here are some steps for your entertainment:

Nobody can deny that when I say I doodle or draw rough sketches I mean it, reeeeeeally doodly and rough first concept, at that time I had a version of Mama Estein dressed up as the little red riding hood in mind too

The idea at first was having her taking little Franken around the neighborhood, with some creepy fences and houses silhouettes in the background, but she was totally looking like Marge Simpson so... off with her!

And as you can see the idea of some metal fence surrounding the blocked shape of the background remained until I was half done with the illustration, at that point I was thinking on using some white for them to make them look like carved shapes that melted with all the white surrounding the main theme, that was edited out too, as soon as I was carried away by the dark night sky and decided I didn't want anything to compete with it.

My favorite part of this illustration? painting those dreadlocks! I want to do that again, maybe a series of monsters dressed up as Jack Sparrow is in the making... or maybe not!

Teresa, this (all of these actually!) are FANTASTIC. You have such a wonderful ability to draw what you imagine! Excellent work - this needs to be a poster or card or something!!!

Dear Teresa,
Wonderful and cute work! Personally and originally, your icon took my attention. I enjoyed your cartoons yesterday. I make cartoons and caricatures, too. When you click a "cartoon" label at my blog, you can find some. I always keep papers at hand, or I cannot catch idea that hits me. Hahahaha, a world needs laughter!!
Cheers, Sadami

Oh that's 'cos you're 5 too and want to dress up as Jack Sparrow this halloween Rhonda, that makes two of us! Hope you're getting out of that seasonal drawback, or at least enjoying the slow times sweetheart.

Pat, glad you liked it! hope you're having a great time developing your latest dog portrait, gotta go and check your latest update.

Deb, thank you very much! that ability wouldn't seem so amazing if you'd seen all the failures lol. I do want to turn this one into a card as soon as I manage to clean up all those white areas, too late for this Halloween though but hopefully it'll be the first of a pack for halloween2011, the "Trick or treating monsters' set"? :D

Sadami, I'll have to check that tag for sure, yesterday I was so engaged by the people sketches that I didn't check anything else, life quick sketches are one of the things that I find so difficult yet there were so many captures of children playing around and they all looked so effortless that I stayed around those desperately looking for knowledge, gotta check the cartoons today, sure they'll give me a whole lot of inspiration since you have such a happy and playful spirit

I'm late getting here to comment but I am loving what you are doing. The way you work out the design and all the elements before you go in with paint. More please, Teresa.

You can be sure there'll be more :)
