And here I was thinking this was going to be another stupid monday, but then I got home just to find that my latest 2 orders had arrived, yay!

Oh, you are gonna love Nick's technique, Teresa! It flows and runs and blends and bursts and blooms and does everything watercolor does and more :) Have fun watching all of these - lucky lucky girl! I'm waiting for Birgit O'Connor's latest DVD and book to come...tick tock tick tock...
She has a new book and DVD? I had no idea! Hope you get them soon, can't wait for your review of them.
You can bet I loved loved loved Nick's demo and already wanted to try, as if I ever had the guts to go that big lol. And the CKC one on marbelizing and monoprinting was enlightening too, if only he didn't have that way of talking... every artist that want to sell a DVD should talk like Nick, I'm a new fan! first time I see a brilliant artist being that entertaining!
Yes, Nick talks like he's right in your livingroom showing you how he does his techniques - he's much more comfortable in front of the camera than most artists. Which ones have you watched so far and which are your faves so far?
You can bet I mainlined them 4 Rhon and from top to bottom I would say:
1.- my favourite is Nick's as you could imagine, the fact that he's so entertaining add points, but the main thing is that you know how much I love vibrant colors and play and see what happens and this DVD is all about it, now I'm hoping he'll make another one where I could see about working out deep dark areas in a painting, right now I want to try something big and I'm blaming this DVD for it, maybe it's time to rework those Kyoto Temple Lanterns I painted last year in 5x7...
2.- Cheng Khee Chee's marbleizing and monoprinting DVD (I'm pretty sure I've written his name wrong again), I've a love/hate relation with CKC because his talking requires a lot of concentration on my side, a spaniard listening to a chinese talking that sloooooowly in english can be.... anyway I was so interested in this technique and you can bet I loved it, he goes through the materials to the marbleizing, then choose one that seems to be able to work out as a good piece and pimp it to a good design, then adds color too. The only thing I didn't like is that when he was going to go big guns marbleizing with color he just talked over a finished piece explaining what he did instead of actually doing it, that final part was more like a lecture at a class and, even knowing he couldn't actually go through a process that require so much contemplating, I was hoping at least a demo in a scrap of how to make it.
3.- The one on Chinese Brush Painting is the less innovative or interesting of them (to me), not because it's not good, or because it's not interesting, it's just that it didn't add anything I hadn't know already, it's nice to watch him doing that brushwork for sure but I was hoping to find something new... and I'm boldly saying this knowing that I'll watch it again and again in the future, you can't ever have too much of traditional oriental paintings.
I can't compare The 1000 Journals one with the others because it's not even in the same field, its a documentary not a workshop, and I found it really really REALLY interesting, about the brilliant idea of a man wondering where our creativity go, who decided to get 1000 journals and give them away for people to add whatever they want and give them away again, all over the world, again and again until they were filled, it's interesting hearing about the people who waited to get one, who added something to them, who modified previous pages, who saw their own pages changed, how people reacted so differently to the same page, really interesting indeed.
